Hi Heidi,

I too am a parent from Australia and attended a conference on the weekend where funnily enough Danielle Miller was a keynote speaker. I attended a workshop presented by a principal and it ended with your video "What I want for my children". I know that it moved many parents in the room and there were a few wiping away the tears. I was one of them. What a wonderful, inspiring, poignant video it was. I am presenting at our own School Community Group meeting and will be ending my presentation with your video. It is so important for parents to trust that they have made the right decision about the school they have chosen for their "hearts" and that everyone is on the same page. Our school has been going through some issues and I hope your video leaves parents and teachers alike asking the question "What can I do and am I doing enough".

Thank you so much,
Robyn Vernon

Hi Heidi,
I have just returned from a Parents and Friends Conference in NSW Australia where I was fortunate enough to see your video "What I want for my children"
It moved me profoundly- thank you, thank you, thank you. I look forward to reading your blog. It is amazing how small our world is and how wonderful our world is with bloggers like yourself.

[...] Heidi on I Was Thinking posts an excellent address of this issue which gets one thinking, “Are we doing students a disservice by not perking up our instruction?” Recently I was working with Ms. Laughlin with reading and Activotes, and many students said, “This is FUN!” while they were actively engaged in the lesson on context clues. Not surprisingly unusual, the level of learning was high, the on task behavior was 100%, and engagement in the lesson was evident by discussion and the high number of correct answers.
Greetings Heidi,

I am educator, author and the founder and CEO of Enlighten Education - an Australian company that works in schools to inspire teen girls to really consider what sort of young women they would like to become, and support them in making this transformation. We belive that by entering our young girls' world and enagaging them (head, hand and heart) we have the capacity to be a voice of difference and facilitate meaningful conversations around gender and identity.

I am a blogger too and would love you to take a look at my blog - The Butterfly Effect (http://enlighteneducation.edublogs.org) I suspect it will be right up your alley.

Enough about us. My real motivation here is to congratulate you on some very thoughtful posts. I especially love your video "What I want for my children" and have added it to my vidpod to share with my client schools "Down Under."

I look forward to reading all your previous posts and to joining in some of the conversations!

Hi Heidi,

I just finished reading your blog and I was totally taken with it!! Having two boys makes me nervous about how to get them to emote and feel and have confidence. I am just glad that I am not the only one!! If you are still up to the blog idea I would love to take you up on it!! I haven't gotten to you sooner because Rob- my husband- was restoring the laptop and it seemed to take forever!! But it is certainly working better!!

Much Love to you
Hope Back to school was FUN!

Heidi.. I have always loved your thinking and now you're sharing your wisdom on your blog. I too believe in the power of positive thinking and every once in a while just asking ourselves why we think a certain way.
By challenging myself over moving to the States to be with the man I love, I have gained so much more than I anticipated. My sun-hat is off to you today! Thanks Heidi for sharing.. I have much to learn from you!
